What are blogs?

In the past few years, blogs have evolved so much that I’m actually finding it hard to define what it really is. Also known as weblogs, blogs may be hard to describe but easy to recognize. A blog can be recognized by the way its content is organized. You will notice that new content are displayed at the top. So, as new content is added the old ones will move down.

Another feature of a blog is that it is not static like most mini sites. It is often updated with new content and usually allows its readers to add comments to a post. A post is the term used for each new content added into a blog’s chronological series of content.

Blogs started out as personal journals of the bloggers. These days, you can find just about anyone blogging:

  • Moms and dads … even grandma.
  • Businesses … small and corporate.
  • Movie stars.
  • Even politicians.

Why we build blogs?

Though not as easy to build as mini sites, with a bit more effort, blogs provide a powerful platform for you to publish content and share it with the world. They are interactive in nature and allow you to run and manage a website that can be updated with new content easily without having to worry about the design and code of your site.

While it used to be a place for bloggers to voice out their opinion, there are many reasons for people to blog nowadays. Blogs have been used:

  • as a way to express personal opinions.
  • as a marketing tool.
  • as a communication tool.
  • as an educational medium.
  • and even as a campaign strategy for presidential candidates.

A blog has advantages for business owners and people looking to make a living from the Internet as well:

  • Blogging establishes you as an expert in your field.
  • Blogging moves your site up in the search engines if you update your site regularly.
  • Blogging gives you an easy way to interact with customers and potential customers.
  • Blogging is an easy way to give more value to your customers and let them know more about you and your products before they buy.
