Over the years, people of color have made great strides to erase the effects of decades of prejudice and racism. While people of color have made significant social, economic and educational gains, we still lack a sense of strategy and priority in the utilization of our substantial and growing economic resources. Our failure to marshal our resources is no more evident than in the $500 billion per year sports and entertainment business industries. Although athletes and entertainers of color dominate at the playing and performing level, our athletic and entertainment talent is not viewed as a natural resource of the community and, therefore, does not support a lifestyle or standard of living for the community as a whole commensurate with the contribution of athletes and entertainers of color to the sports and entertainment business industries.
